It’s yet another beautiful weekend with Movie Review and less than two days to go before Valentine. Not to mention we also have a winner for Tuesday’s quiz (check the post ‘This Val’). I know some of y’all will probably skip the whole review and go straight to the end for that. Whatever. I’m still doing my review all the same.
This Friday we’ve got the movie ‘The Transporter Refueled’. Bad news for Jason Statham fans, as he’s out of the franchise after three movies. Awww. But seriously guys, you didn’t expect him to keep at it forever now, did you? And I suppose somebody else from the ‘Impossible Series’ should take a cue from this. Anyways we’ve got some new guy….. Ed Skrein taking over from Statham but I feel it’s going to be tough for him to win over The Transporter fans. I mean I fell in love in Jason Statham and I believe most of us did when he starred in the ‘The Transporter’ series. Think ‘The Transporter’ and what comes to mind is Jason Statham (almost like the role was made for him or vice versa). Statham is a natural with his Hollywood stereotyped “kill the bad guys” persona. Guess that was why I loved his crazy character in ‘Spy’ with his penchant for telling unbelievable lies and utter belief in the existence of ‘Face lift’ machine; it was completely hilarious. But now I’m digressing. (See Post ‘I am so Grateful!!!)
So how did the fourth installment ‘The Transporter Refueled’ an English-French action thriller film directed by Camille Delamarre and written by Bill Collage, Adam Cooper, and Luc Besson with the new guy replacing Jason Statham in the role of Frank Martin fare? As of December 2015, the film had grossed $72.6 million worldwide with its largest territory being China with $18. 3 million. In its opening weekend it finished 4th at the box office in both North America ($7. 4 million) and China (CNY69.8 million). Not bad right.
The critic pool however was; with largely negative reviews and a rating of 17% on Rotten Tomatoes. The general consensus was that ‘The Transporter Refueled’ had little to offer apart from a handful of action scenes making the reboot more wishful thinking than reality. Some were of the opinion that while Statham’s Shadow loomed over the reboot, Skrein nailed it. Well, I’m compelled to agree. Skrein did a pretty good job so maybe the franchise is in good hands. And there were a few decent stunts like the one when Skrein drives his car off the airport runway through the Airport traffic control tower; that was baddddd! But it didn’t have much of a story line and the dialogue was no better; it all felt so contrived. But that’s to be expected. The action flicks generally lack the two. So watch the movie and let us know whom you prefer, Statham or Skrein?
On to the big moment of the day (for those that didn’t already skip to the bottom), we have one proud winner of two free tickets to go see the movie ‘Couple of Days’ and that winner is…. Vera! Applause! Applause! Applause! Congratulations Vera. You get to take your special somebody to the cinema on Val’s Day FOC.
