Movie Review

MIRogueNationMainThank God it’s another Friday and we get to watch another awesome movie. Thanks Ekes for your comment on last week’s movie; nailed it right on the head if you ask me. Anyway I know you’re going to love this week’s choice, it’s another sequel. Yeah the sequels are raking in the big bucks. Why bother looking for an original concept when you’ve got something already that’s tried, tested and works. So are we ready…. the must watch movie for the week…. ‘Mission Impossible; Rogue Nation’.

tom cruiseYes it’s another action movie but you have to admit that the action, sci fi, fantasy/adventure films make a great watch any day. Who wants to sit through 2 hours of some chick flick or drama? Guys can I get a witness? So Mission Impossible; Rogue Nation it is. The franchise is more like American’s version of James Bond except you have Ethan Hunt as the IMF (Impossible Mission Force) agent that carries out impossible feats since mission difficult is a walk in the park for him.

In the Rogue NationIMF agent Ethan Hunt  is on the run from the CIA, followingcast the IMF’s disbandment as he tries to prove the existence of the Syndicate, an international criminal consortium. The film stars Tom Cruise, Jeremy Renner, Simon Pegg, Rebecca Ferguson, Ving Rhames, Sean Harris and Alec Baldwin. It was co-written and directed by Christopher McQuarrie and produced by Cruise, J.J Adams and David Ellison.

The Mission: Impossible films are a series of action spy thriller film based on the television series of the same name, produced by and starring Tom Cruise as IMF agent Ethan Hunt. Rogue Nation is the fifth installment in the Mission: Impossible film series with Mission: Impossible (1996), Mission Impossible II (2000), Mission: Impossible III (2006) and Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol (2011).missionimpossible2_1 I have to say MI II was my favourite; loved the combo of Cruise and Newton and the Villain, Scott. And Anthony Hopkins as well. The series is the 17th-highest-grossing film series of all time with over $2 billion worth of worldwide gross. Rogue Nation the 5th installment was released in North America by Paramount Pictures on July 31, 2015 to critical and commercial success. In its opening weekend it took in $55.5 million at the U.S. box office and has grossed over $195 million in North America and $682 million worldwide. Wow right!

Mission-Impossible-5I think the latest sequel was great considering I didn’t particularly care for the last two, so Rogue Nation puts the franchise back on track for me. From the opening scene where Brandt goes on about some package on the plane that’s about to take off to Benji who keeps opening the wrong door for a Hunt hanging on to the plane in midair, it was hilarious, fun, action packed, not to forget the awesome stunt scenes like the bike chase. And of course Hunt carries out another impossible feat by holding his breath in a dome like structure under water while switching some genetic microchip or something. But then the movie isn’t complete until Hunt performs some impossible feat right?!

I hear a 6th installment is in the works but wonder if Cruise is going to be in this one. Though he looks good for a guy in his fifties, I seriously doubt he’s going to be able to keep up the impossible feats much longer. Let’s watch and see.

By the way some advice for the night crawlers, you might want to stay home this weekend and watch our movie. It would seem the Men in Black have it out for the clubbers considering how they rounded up quite a number of your peers somewhere in Festac Town a couple of weeks ago and tortured them extensively. Heard one of the victims has decided to forgive the officers in question because one of them missed his daughter’s wedding….awww. Good news for all you would be criminals, make sure you commit the crime a couple of days to your child’s wedding or some important ceremony and you might just be let off the hook. Naija! Oh naija! Have a great weekend peeps. Cherio.
