Feeling Nostalgic…

Hiya folks! Hope you had fun this Easter hols? Did you get to see our must watch movie ‘Gods of Egypt’? Would love to hear your thoughts if you did. I had great fun during the break, from a water baptism ceremony, to a hang out with hubby and friends, to attending a Communion Service with David’s Army.

Of course I saw a movie. We live for the movies, remember. My best part of it all however, would be the Communion Service with my teenagers. Sitting on the floor, the table with candle light setting felt reminiscence of Christ’s Last Supper with His disciples. And I simply loved it. Too spiritual for you? Lol. No apologies people. That’s how I roll. It’s God, Family (add friends to the second) & Movies for yours truly.

Still in the reminiscing mood, I recently learnt that one of my favourite cartoons growing up, was making a comeback. Yay! You want to know which one. It’s none other than…. ‘Voltron: Defender of the Universe’!

You do remember it? Green lion, Red lion etc. Princess Allura, Keith, the rest of the gang and the evil prince Lotor. And the formation process; I form hands and legs…. and I form the head (think the black lion did that). I can even still remember the theme song. Can’t sing it on the blog now, can I? Lol. And my best part… “form blazing sword”! At that point you knew the enemy was done for.

Sorry, those of you that don’t know what I’m talking about. But for all y’all that watched the cartoons of the eighties and nineties, (no trying to guess my age now) remember these other cartoons?fragglerock

Awesome right? As far as moi is concerned, the eighties and nineties were simply the best days of television; soaps, series, comedies, cartoons. And the cartoons weren’t just fun to watch, but were also informative and educative. Now what we have is more of bling, bling television; sex and violence (sigh deep).

Not to digress, ‘Voltron: Defender of the Universe’ is an animated television series that features a team of astronauts that pilot a giant Super Robot known as “Voltron”. It was the top-rated syndicated children’s show for two years during its original run, and spawned a follow-up series, several comic books, and a 1-hour special. giphy (1)

Initially produced as a joint venture between World Events Productions and Toei Animation, the original television series aired in syndication from September 10, 1984 to November 18, 1985. The first season of Voltron, featuring the “Lion Force Voltron”, was adapted from the Japanese anime television series Beast King GoLion. The second season, featuring the “Vehicle Force Voltron”, was adapted from the unrelated anime series Armored Fleet Dairugger XV. It’s quite surprising the number of America TV features, culled from the Asians, especially the Japanese and Chinese, like the “Transformers” franchise and some horror flicks (see post “Don’t Look in the Closet!) It would appear the Asians have a rich cultural heritage, which goes well with TV especially the animation.

On January 5, 2016, Netflix announced Voltron would debut in 2016 as an original animated Netflix series in 39887a5642d983004928484ba4ece2e8partnership with DreamWorks Animation (DWA), part of an expanded multi-year agreement between the two groups.

In February, teasers revealed the title of the new series to be Voltron: Legendary Defender (why change the name folks). On March 25, 2016, a teaser trailer was released, announcing that the first season, consisting of 13 episodes, would premiere June 10, 2016. Yippeeee!

Well, I’m waiting with abated breath. Though I’m not so much of an animation fan except for the movies, but this is one cartoon series that I’m willing to make an exception for. So bring it on Netflix!
