It’s another Movie Friday and quite an interesting week. From the Senators that celebrated the International Women’s Day by urging their colleagues and fellow men to marry more wives, the revamping of the nation’s oil powerhouse, NNPC to our President enlisting Nigeria in the Coalition of Islamic Countries Against Terrorism… not even going to touch the last with a 100 meters wide pole. And of course we had we had our winner of Jollyhood’s 88th Academy Awards Competition, Neca strike a pose for the camera (See Post Re: SoWhite Oscars).
That was by far my best moment of the week. Thanks Neca for your comments. We’re happy that you’re happy! That’s what Jollyhood lives for, apart from the movies of course. Looking forward to giving out a return ticket to one dear reader someday soon. Don’t knock it! Everything starts with a dream remember.
Which is why I want to try another genre of movie this weekend, one we’ve never reviewed before. The type that sends a strong message of hope whatever the odds. Guesssssss…..it’s an Animation film. Yippee! For all your animation lovers, this is your week as our must watch movie is… Kung Fu Panda 3. Yay!
Kung Fu Panda 3, a sequel to the 2011 film Kung Fu Panda 2 and the third installment in the Kung Fu Panda franchise is 2016 3D American-Chinese, computer-animated action comedy martial arts film. It was produced by DreamWorks Animation and Oriental DreamWorks, directed by Jennifer Yuh Nelson and Alessandro Carloni, and written by Jonathan Aibel and Glenn Berger. in the 3rd installment Po (Jack Black), the Dragon Warrior and the Furious Five members. Tigress (Angelina Jolie), Crane (David Cross), Mantis (Seth Rogen), Viper (Lucy Liu), and Monkey (Jackie Chan) face a new foe, spirit warrior, Kai (J. K. Simmons) who steals the chi (essence) of warriors to make himself stronger. But with the help of his adopted father, his real father, whom he was recently reunited with and a village of Panda relatives, Po is able to save the day.
The film was moved forward to its original release date of March 18, 2016, to avoid competition with Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens. In April 2015, the release date was once again shifted, this time to January 29, 2016. As of March 8, 2016, Kung Fu Panda 3 has grossed $134.4 million in North America and $192.2 million in other territories for a worldwide total of $326.6 million. As of Sunday, Kung Fu Panda 3 had already grossed 975 million yuan (US$149 million) and was on its way to become the first animation to enter the 1-billion-yuan box office club as it received a rare green light to run two months in Chinese theaters until March 27, according to the producers. Whoa! Not bad for a cartoon! Maybe I should consider branching into the animation line.
Kung Fu Panda 3 like its predecessors, received generally positive reviews from critics and the public but Forbes however felt it was a comedown from the first two superb entries. On Rotten Tomatoes, the film holds a rating of 82%, based on 97 reviews, with an average rating of 6.6/10. The site’s critical consensus reads, “Kung Fu Panda 3 boasts the requisite visual splendor, but like its rotund protagonist, this sequel’s narrative is also surprisingly nimble, adding up to animated fun for the whole family”.
I totally concur! I loved it! The effects were great (loved the Kung Fu stuff), humour was infectious and the movie was quite entertaining. And had a nice villain too (it was hilarious whenever he lost his bonkers because no one seemed to have heard off of him). My favourite quote would be where the turtle… (Lol)… sorry meant Master Oogway, says to our antagonist Kai;
“When will you realize the more you take, the less you have”
Think there’s a lesson there for Nigeria Politicians “Steal more and have less” right? But basically the message of the movie, not to strive to be someone else, but to believe in yourself, to use YOUR inherent skills to make a difference and win the fight inspite of the odds is beautiful. Not to mention the good always triumphs over evil part. So folks it’s Kung Fu Panda 3 this week, because we need our spirits lifted after the week we’ve had with our naija leaders trying to steal our chi. But its never gonna happen because we ain’t going down without a fight. Lol. Take care people. XoXo!
